AMG Grocery Marketing surveyed over 700 shoppers in the Southeast about their grocery shopping habits.

More than a third (34%) of shoppers make 2 visits a week to the store and 24% make three or more trips per week.

Having shoppers in our stores more frequently is a great opportunity for a number of reasons. First, it promotes brand loyalty. Returning to the same places multiple times a week turns happenstance into habit. If the store experience is consistently positive, then shoppers will be happy to keep coming in.

Also, repetitive visits give stores the opportunity to expose the shopper to new products, displays and offers as they return to the store on different days of the week.

As visits increase, notice how the basket size categories show steady increases in the $151-250, $251-$350 and $350+ categories.

And because the increase is so dramatic from two visits to 3 and 3 visits to 4, enticing shoppers back into the store for just one more visit per week can have dramatic effects for the store.

Effects of Increasing Store Visits:

  • 34% of 2x/week spent more than $150/week compared to only 24% of 1x/week shoppers.
  • 49% of 3x/week shoppers spent more than $150/week
  • 53% of 4+/week shoppers spent more than $150/week
  • 28% of 4+/week shoppers spent more than $250/week
